Software Engineering Lab (G.2.06)

Research by members of this lab is loosely centred on graphic user interfaces and navigation in virtual spaces.

In a project on low bandwidth video conferencing, we are sending pictures of a human face by using image processing software to recognise facial expressions, transmitting face model parameters, and reconstructing an image at the receiver.

In conjunction with the Mathematics Department, software has been developed for character and mathematical expression recognition, and we have experimented with user interface design for expression entry and interface to the SENAC symbolic computation system. Of particular interest has been the use of LR parsing techniques for rapid parsing of ordered two dimensional expressions.

Research is currently being undertaken that will involve generating and testing an exemplar of an application which through user individualised user interfaces will allow multilingual use.
