Distributed Systems Laboratory (G.1.04)

It is the goal of distributed computing to bring together the resources of a group of computers in a way that supports sharing. A distributed operating system is one that looks to its users like an ordinary centralised operating system but runs on multiple independent CPUs.

The members of this lab interact closely with the department’s WAND research group and with operating systems research. The lab has a strong Linux focus and several projects have involved working with the Linux kernel. Projects have included block-based distributed file systems, URL file system, network simulation and event detection in network measurement data.
