This paper is a practical study of computer graphic design principles; covering topics such as graphic design techniques, typography, colour, digital images, designing for computer displays and the web.

Computing Resources
The laboratory for this course is Lab R2. This lab is equipped with PCs running all the software necessary for this course. Printing, email and web traffic will be charged for through the university central billing system.

The Laboratory is available to enrolled students Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. You will need an access swipe card to enter the lab outside these working hours.

Means of Assessment
The practical programme must be completed to the satisfaction of the course coordinator.
The course is entirely internally assessed and consists of:

    Practicals: 30%
    Project: 50%
    Test: 20%

Practicals: There are 3 practicals of equal weight. Each practical has different requirements for what must be submitted. Practicals will be marked by the demonstrators during your own scheduled labs.
Project: The project is a more substantial piece of work. It will be marked by the course coordinator and must be completed to a satisfactory level.
Test: The test will based on the material covered in the lectures and will be administered during one of the lectures.

Late Submissions
No late assignments will be accepted (for exceptions see the section on Performance Impairment). In the event of extenuating hardware or software problems the due date for the assignment will be extended for the entire class.

Internal assessment/final examination ratio 1:0

Assessment Components
This is an internally assessed course. You must achieve a minimum grade of 50% in the course work to pass the course. The practical components must be completed to the satisfaction of the course coordinator.
