Students organise themselves into and work in small groups throughout the paper. They will contribute to all aspects of building a medium-sized piece of software: developing requirements and specification; designing the system structure and user-interface; carrying out documentation, and implementation.
Students who successfully complete this paper should be able to:
- Work with a client to understand their domain and apply technology to solve a problem in that domain
- Communicate that problem and their solution clearly, to both a technical and a non-technical audience
- Use a systematic and disciplined process to analyse, design, build and test their software solution
- Understand how to work in a software development team
- Understand the importance of regular reflection to improve their work practices and processes

If the instructor identifies knowledge gaps that he feels will interfere the students' ability to successfully deliver a project, he will provide lecture material to fill those gaps. Otherwise, lecture times will be used for presentations, to meet as a group to discuss issues pertaining to projects, and to meet with the instructor and teaching assistants.

All components in this paper will be assigned a letter grade. Students will be assessed on two group presentations, a completed project, two reflective reports, and feedback from the customer.
Internal assessment/final examination ratio 1:0
An grade of C or better is required on the project to pass this paper.
Because most of the grade in this paper is based on group work, students must demonstrate that they have contributed to the final project. Students that cannot demonstrate adequate contribution to the final project will receive a failing grade on the project and a failing grade in the paper.
