BCMS Honours Topic: "Real-time articulatory speech-synthesis-by-rules."
In the 1980s, an “articulatory” speech synthesizer, which simulates the physical characteristics of the human vocal tract, was developed. However, because little is known about how humans exert physical control their vocal tract, methods of control have been tied to specific implementations of the synthesizer. The aim of this project is to adapt the synthesizer to take advantage of advances in computing technology. Furthermore to separate the current synthesizer from its existing control system allowing future researchers to develop other methods of control.
