Research Interests
BCMS Honours Topic: "Accelerating regular expressions on many core systems."

Regular expression matching is an essential component of many areas of computer science, from simple applications such as parsing to more critical applications such as signature recognition in Network Intrusion Detection systems. As the rate of network attacks is always increasing every year, more and more sophisticated approaches to increasing the throughput of regular expression matchers are required.

This project seeks to increase the performance of regular expression matchers by exploring parallel implementations using special hardware with many cores: the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor and Wave Semiconductor's Azure SoC.
