Research Interests
PhD Topic: "Te rorohiko me te reo Māori: What is the role of computer technology within a Māori language regeneration strategy?"

Software applications that have interfaces available in te reo Māori include: Microsoft Windows (XP & Vista), Microsoft Office (2003 & 2007), Moodle, the Google Web Search interface. This research proposes to identify the role of computer technology and translated interfaces within language strategies aimed at the survival and regeneration of at-risk indigenous languages. The possible impact and uses of various social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, electronic mail and web logs will be investigated in conjunction with a case study based on the eWānanga and TechPā initiatives implemented by Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.
