Stephen Eichler - Implementing Internet black hole and topology analysis with large numbers of vantage points

The Internet sometimes has blockages between user endhosts and server endhosts. These cases of Internet unreachability along certain paths at certain times are called black holes. Black holes represent failure of the Internet to achieve its most fundamental goal: that of full connectivity between all endhosts on the Internet. Present systems to detect and repair black holes probe the Internet from several hundred vantage points and achieve a moderate percentage of detection. This research seeks to upscale the number of vantage points and so fine tune the configuration of the detection systems, to improve the level of efficient black hole detection. This is important as prolonged existence of undetected black holes increases the length of time that parts of the Internet are in a disfunctional state.
