I studied Chemistry and Mathematics at the University of Waikato and completed a joint MSc in those subjects. As a student I was fascinated by computers and although I never studied computer science formally, was able to take advantage of opportunities to learn to use and program the machines available at the University at that time. In 1978 he was offered an academic position in Computer Science at Waikato University and have been here ever since.
My teaching work has ranged over much aspects of the subject, from architecture through most aspects of software development. My early research interests were in the programming language and compiler construction area. More recently I has been interested in the programming and evaluation of human-computer interfaces and the software architectures that support HCI programming.
