... to qualify as an example of montage, a new media object should fulfill two conditions:

Juxtapositions of elements should follow a particular system,

and these juxtapositions should play a key role in how the work establishes its meaning, and its emotional and aesthetic effects.

Most images and spaces of contemporary culture are juxtapositions of different elements; calling any such juxtaposition "montage" renders the term meaningless.
