COMP548A Developing Mobile Applications

This paper will consider the design and implementation of applications for mobile devices covering topics such as: mobile application software architectures; development platform options; design and evaluation of small-screen touch-based user interfaces; leveraging technologies such as global positioning, near-field communication and orientation/environmental sensing; mobile web applications and publishing to application stores. Practical work will use the Android platform and so the paper is best-suited to students with experience of Java programming.

Pre Requisite Papers
Either COMP316 Artificial Intelligence Techniques and Applications or
COMP321 Practical Data Mining, and
a further 60 points at 300 level in Computer Science

Assessment Components
There are 4 items of coursework. Each is worth one quarter of the final course grade. Submission dates are as follows:

  • Coursework 1: Friday 28th March
  • Coursework 2: Friday 2nd May
  • Coursework 3: Friday 6th June
  • Coursework 4: Friday 6th June
Courseworks 1-3 will be practically oriented and focus on design and implementation of a mobile application. Coursework 4 will be a written report.
