Koru
Koru is a search engine that uses Wikipedia to organize documents, make queries more accurate, and suggest new topics for people to explore.
I'm developing Koru for my PhD, so it's unfinished and will likely evolve over the next few years. For now its just a proof of concept and a base for evaluating wheither my ideas actually work. Before I'm finished I would like to open it up so that people can add their own documents and use it as an interface for their own digital libraries. Stay tuned!
Wikipedia Miner
Wikipedia Miner is a toolkit for navigating and making use of the structure and content of Wikipedia. It provides simplified, object-oriented access to Wikipedia's structure and content, allows terms and concepts to be compared semantically, and can detect Wikipedia topics when they are mentioned in documents. The online services provide good demos of this functionality.
Wikipedia Miner is also getting developed as part of my PhD. Basically if I do something for Koru that I think will be useful for other applications and investigations, then I tidy it up and add it to the toolkit.
Recoled
Recoled (REcording COLlaborative EDitor) is a java-based document editor which allows groups of authors to simultaneously and remotely collaborate around a central shared document. It's a little like Google Docs, except that it focuses on close, synchronous collaboration. It provides a lot more feedback about where everyone is and what they are up to, so that they can co-operate effectively.
Recoled was developed for my Honors thesis, under the supervision of Masood Masoodian. It has been developed further by Matt Bouamrane of the Computational Linguistics Group (Trinity College, Dublin) as part of his PhD thesis.
