Message from the Chairperson
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Waikato has a strong international reputation for both its teaching and research. We are proud to be recognised as among the best in the world in the area of Computer Science and Information Systems - with a top 250 world ranking by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
We offer a comprehensive range of courses and are involved in a wide range of exciting and innovative research that transcend the boundary between theory and practice.
We enjoy a high international academic profile for our work in such areas as broadband communication, cyber security, digital libraries, formal methods, human-computer interaction, machine learning, software engineering and internet of things (IoT).
The computing facilities in the Department are among the best in New Zealand. Our students get to work with a wide range of computing infostructure from smart phones and tablets for mobile app development to cluster computers for massively parallel processing.
We have an attractive campus in a city fringe setting close to restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Nearby are surf beaches, fishing, hiking and ski resorts; and just 90 minutes away is Auckland, New Zealand’s major population centre.
Computer use in industry, business, education and government is widespread, and the need for qualified professionals with a computing background continues to grow. Prepare yourself for a successful career in the computer science industry and study with us. Contact us today!
