Dec 2010 Concert at HGHS Atrium (Photo by M. Boss)
The Glow Singers were established in 2009 for Hamilton's Lesbian and Gay singers to come together and express themselves through a diverse range of music. Our musical abilities range from people who are experienced choral singers to people who haven't sung since school and can't read music.

Our first concert was in July 2009. We nervously performed to a kind audience of family and friends, and shared supper afterwards. Following this success, we practised and performed traditional (and some not-so-traditional) Christmas carols at the end of the year, visiting two rest-homes and performing at two community party/concerts. In April 2010 about half the choir attended the OUTandLOUD Choral Festival in Auckland where we joined choirs from all over New Zealand and performed with them in a mass choir in the Auckland City Town Hall. We held two concerts in 2010, the first in June where we introduced mostly new music, and the second in December where we revived some old favourites to accompany the new numbers and also introduced some ukulele accompaniments.

How can I get involved?
After each concert for four weeks GLOW opens membership to new members. Membership is six monthly. During the six month membership we will learn and sing songs in preparation for a concert at the end of the period. You are welcome to come along and sing with us during the open period to find out if our choir is the right one for you. Each six month period costs $25 membership fees which goes towards the cost of purchasing music and other necessities.
If you don't want to sing but are a pianist with the ability to accompany we would love to have you along as a rehearsal and concert pianist.

If you are able to make a financial donation to GLOW and would like to sponsor a concert or help support us financially, please talk to our treasurer, Wendy Bell. With more financial backing we would be able to purchase more music to sing, and can list you as a sponsor on our website and on any promotional material we create.
If you have particular skills you would like to contribute to GLOW, please chat with our secretary, Rebecca Fraser. We may need non-singing support at concert times (if you would like to help with preparing and serving tea, coffee and snacks). If you think there are other areas you could offer support, please do not hesitate to help us!
